The Sweetwater County Board of County Commissioners on Feb. 17 approved two budget amendments moving available funds from a road-and-bridge pickup-truck capital account into county facility projects.
Accounting specialist Rebecca Romero told commissioners the first amendment would reallocate $1,500 so the facilities custodial capital project could purchase a new floor scrubber priced at $16,500 with a five-year warranty, replacing an older used-unit plan that came with only a 90-day warranty. "The additional $1,500 provides better long term value and reduces the maintenance risk," Romero said. After a brief, public-hearing period with no speakers, the board voted unanimously to adopt Resolution 26-02-CL-01.
The second amendment established a new capital project for the county detention center to fund the design and permitting phase for safety railing improvements. Romero said construction costs will be addressed later and that the $36,070 transfer would be covered by unspent pickup-truck capital funds without impacting general-fund reserves. Commissioner Richards moved the resolution and Commissioner Slaughter seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
Both amendments were presented as reallocations among capital projects rather than new expenditures that would affect the county’s general reserves. Officials said construction-phase funding for the detention-center work will be addressed through a future capital project request.
