During the March 10 Finance Committee meeting County Treasurer Valerie Tracey reported that a Municipal Employees' Retirement System (MERS) payment was not processed in December 2024 and that she could not correct certain items without additional assistance. Tracey said she has enlisted the prior county treasurer to help and expects reconciliations to be completed from January 2025 onward.
Accountant Corinna Hervey said she was not aware of the MERS discrepancy until the week before the meeting and expressed concern that the MERS figure was not the only issue. Hervey said the discrepancy, along with other account problems discovered while reviewing Road Commission funds, underscored that bank reconciliations and accounts payable needed thorough review before auditors arrive. Commissioners pressed staff for clarity about the timing of discovery and corrective steps.
