Lander County approves $558,506 PoolPact renewal after presentation on member services and wellness pilot

The Lander County Board of Commissioners voted June 26 to approve renewal of the county's membership in the Nevada Public Agency Insurance Pool (PoolPact) and authorized payment of $558,506.13 from fiscal-year 2025–26 funds.

Alan, PoolPact’s chief financial officer, told the board how the member-owned pool provides combined insurance, risk management and training services for rural Nevada jurisdictions and highlighted recent investment returns that have boosted member reserves. “Your premiums for pool pack didn't quadruple, they didn't double, they went up 41 basis points, less than 1/2 of 1%,” Alan said, arguing the pool’s structure yields more stable premiums and programmatic support than private alternatives. Commissioners asked for clarification on program elements and fiscal-year labeling before the motion was carried by voice vote.

The presentation also described a four-month metabolic wellness pilot the pool will subsidize for the 50 highest-risk employees; the program includes personalized nutrition and exercise coaching, advanced blood testing and digital imaging, and online e-learning modules to scale training across member entities. Commissioners praised staff for pursuing the renewal and for leveraging PoolPact services to help curb county risk and employee health costs; the board approved the renewal motion after a second and a voice vote.

The vote authorizes the county manager or authorized signatory to execute payment for the 2025–26 pool renewal and maintains Lander County’s participation in PoolPact’s member services and risk-management programs.
