County approves purchase of 24.77 acres for future senior center and housing

The Lander County Board of Commissioners approved purchase June 12 of roughly 24.77 acres from the Palley trusts and others for an amount not to exceed $243,000 plus up to $7,000 in seller closing costs, subject to acceptance of an easement exhibit and prior to close of escrow.
Staff described the long-term goal for the parcel as hosting a senior center and possibly smaller senior housing units around a community complex. "The long term goal here is gonna be a project that'll come back before the commission to build a senior center and some, potentially some senior housing," staff said on the record. The board approved the resolution to authorize purchase and delegated signing authority to the chair or vice chair to complete documents.
Commissioners discussed timing and noted the project could be considered in the next budget cycle; staff will bring back project specifics, funding questions and designs as the acquisition moves into disposition and planning steps.
