County awards preventive maintenance contract ~ $1.39M; school parking lot added to scope

Aaron Martinez summarized the recommended award for PWP-LA-2025355, the county's 2025 preventive maintenance project for southern county roads, saying the combined base and alternate bids were about $500,000 under the allocated budget.
"The project in total came in about a 500,000 below the total, allocated budget," Martinez said, recommending award of both the base bid ($1,387,925) and the bid alternate ($1,036,082). He said work will include crack sealing, chip sealing and micro-paving on roads including Austin, Gilman, Kingston and Grass Valley, with some work in Battle Mountain and a parking-lot cap at the courthouse.
Commissioners asked about schedule and publication of road closures; Martinez said contractors will likely start crack sealing around August 4, with major roadway work between mid-August and the end of that month, and that staff will provide a schedule for posting at post offices and online. Public Works staff also requested authority to incorporate the Austin school parking lot into the job under a force-account charge (estimated rough cost ~$26,000); the commission approved that inclusion.
Next steps: staff will finalize the contractor schedule, post notices to affected communities and proceed with contract award and pre-construction coordination.
