County approves $111,706 contract to digitize historic assessor roll books

Lander County approved a contract June 12 with US Imaging Inc. to scan, preserve and digitize the assessor’s historical roll books in an amount not to exceed $111,706.25, funded from the assessor’s technology fund.
County Assessor Laura Duvall told commissioners the roll books—stored in the basement—are deteriorating from handling and need preservation. "There's a lot of people doing research in those old roll books and I think we have 118 of them," Duvall said. She said the vendor uses a mix of human and automated processes to enhance legibility and that digitized copies would be made available online; staff will coordinate server storage and web access with IT/Oasis.
The board approved the one-time agreement after commissioners discussed security and access logistics; staff said they can control facility access (keycard, cameras) while work is underway. Duvall said she will follow up on timelines and IT storage arrangements as the project moves forward.
