Council rezones two parcels to Highway Commercial over public comment

Bradley Harrell of BAEF LLC presented a zone-change application to amend the official zoning map for parcels T-3-0-22-233 and T-3-0-27-144 from Residential (R-1-20) to Highway Commercial (H-C). Harrell told the council the property contains a well and that part of the water rights had been donated to the Washington County Water Conservancy District. Mayor Catlin and staff reviewed the city's general plan and zoning designations.
Public commenters Andre Villegas and Mike Walker voiced concerns about the location and potential effects of commercial development on nearby homes. After discussion, Councilwoman Jenny Chamberlain moved to approve the ordinance amending the official zoning map; Councilman Joey Campbell seconded. The motion carried 5-0.
