Powers emphasized personnel and inmate safety as his primary concern, stating, “I DON’T HAVE ANY OBJECTION TO REPLACING USED TRANSPORT VEHICLES WITH NEW. I WON’T RISK THE SECURITY OF THE TEAM AND INMATES.”
David Weber, Jail Administrator, said federal surplus had no suitable vehicles and that a quoted price of $1,500 would include the cage and labor. Weber said he would double-check whether adding a cage voids a new vehicle warranty and promised to return with an updated proposal.
The authority did not approve purchases at the meeting; members asked staff to explore alternatives and bring pricing and warranty details to the next meeting.
