Planning & Zoning chair urges Krebs to plan for water, sewer expansion and annexation

Mark Moy, chairman of the Krebs Planning & Zoning Board, asked the Krebs Utilities Authority board to broaden its focus beyond immediate water sales and consider long-term infrastructure and annexation strategy. Moy said the city lacks sufficient water and sewer service on key corridors including Hwy 69 and US‑270 and urged a comprehensive plan to support business and residential growth.
"If Krebs is going to grow, I think we need to try and put money towards that way, the business," Moy said, pressing the board and staff to include infrastructure projects in future budgets. Moy also observed that previous failure to provide service led to McAlester supplying water in some areas, and he recommended planning for sewer as a near-term follow-up if water capacity could be addressed.
Board and staff members answered that KUA finances have been strained by operational needs, including chemical supplies and dam repairs, limiting the availability of reserves to fund large capital projects today. Moy said Planning & Zoning expected to have items on its own agenda addressing these issues and urged coordination between the planning board, KUA and the council for budget and capital planning.
