County moves to apply for $2M Bill Gardner grant and accepts $1M Airline Road award

Henry County authorized staff to pursue two state transportation grants at the Aug. 4 meeting: a $2 million application for the Bill Gardner Parkway widening and acceptance of a $1 million award for the Airline Road extension.
Sam Baker told the board the Bill Gardner Parkway project — previously allocated $34 million by county voters in 2021 — now has a current estimate to complete of about $60 million; staff requested permission to submit a $2 million grant application to the Georgia Transportation Infrastructure Bank to help advance the project and the board approved the request. “Currently, the estimate to complete this project is 60,000,000,” Baker said.
Baker also announced that Henry County had been awarded a competitive $1,000,000 grant for the Airline Road extension project and asked whether the board would accept the award; he said no local match was required. The board approved acceptance of the $1 million grant. Staff noted these awards/applications are intended to supplement SPLOST and local funds to advance right‑of‑way, construction and utility work on the listed corridors.
