Lander County audit receives clean opinion; commissioners approve submission to state

Chad Atkinson of Hinton Burdick, CPAs, told the Lander County Board of Commissioners that the firm issued an "unmodified or clean opinion" on the county’s FY2025 financial statements and identified no reportable internal‑control deficiencies. Commissioners accepted the audit and authorized staff to file it with the state.
Atkinson summarized highlights from the audit presentation, noting the general fund showed a year‑over‑year increase ("the general fund had a change in its fund balance of $1,000,000") and an unassigned balance of about $13,100,000. He also described capital and utility fund trends — for example, the capital projects fund decreased as projects were completed and Battle Mountain Water and Sewer funds reported increases in net position and healthy operating‑reserve months. "There was an unmodified or clean opinion on the financial statements as presented for fiscal year 2025," Atkinson said during the slide presentation.
Commissioners thanked county staff and contract accountants for their work during the audit process. After a brief period for questions, a commissioner moved to approve the audit report from Hinton Burdick and the board voted to accept it and transmit the report to the state as required. The approval was unanimous in voice vote on the record.
