Commissioners approve $2.4M contract to modernize jail cell access and monitoring systems

Commissioners voted unanimously Aug. 4 to authorize Trane Technologies to replace the jail’s access control and monitoring systems under an Omnia contract (3341) not to exceed $2,397,386.44. The presentation said the current equipment is original to the facility and that parts are failing.
Colonel Daniels of the sheriff’s office underscored the urgency: “This system runs on Windows Vista 95,” he said, warning that parts are already failing and a shutdown would be catastrophic. Staff said funding is available in the facilities maintenance capital improvement account and that the work will include equipment, software, installation, integration, testing and commissioning over an expected 12‑month period.
Commissioners asked clarifying questions about budget lines and confirmed the item had been included in the adopted budget; with no further discussion the board moved, seconded and approved the resolution.
