County withdraws proposed $1.3M Axon contract to allow pilot and vendor comparison

The committee announced on Aug. 4 that Resolution 186 — a proposed $1,308,940 contract with Axon Enterprise — would be withdrawn at the sheriff's request to permit a short pilot and to evaluate an alternate vendor. Captain Storey told members the sheriff's office asked for time to trial the service and compare options before finalizing a long‑term purchase.
"We're gonna withdraw the resolution for two reasons. 1, in a couple weeks, we're gonna start a pilot program just to test the services out and, also looking into a second company that offers similar services," Captain Storey said. Chair Clinton moved to withdraw the item so the sheriff's office has time to complete the pilot and vendor review. No vote on a contract was taken at this meeting; staff were asked to continue reviewing the draft AI policy the sheriff submitted separately for member comment.
