County hears construction update on Austin Community Center and large-area exploration near Mill Creek

During the public-comment period, Aaron Martinez of AM Engineering provided a construction update on the Austin Community Center. Martinez said the footings would be poured that day and stem walls would begin the following Thursday; he described utility conflicts with AT&T and NV Energy that required coordination and noted J and M Materials Testing is the county's QA/QC inspector until the project goes vertical. "The footings will be poured out today and then we'll start pouring the stem walls next Thursday," Martinez said.
Also in public comment, Pam Harrington alerted the board to a large exploration project by NGM near Mill Creek that will span roughly 21,160 acres and noted an environmental assessment will be prepared. Harrington said cooperating-agency interactions may be limited under recent federal regulatory changes and that drill rigs and drill pads are likely to follow the EA process.
The board acknowledged both updates and thanked the speakers; no formal action was taken in response to these public comments during the meeting.
