Lander County to send comments on BLM Callahan Complex herd-management environmental assessment

The Lander County Board of Commissioners authorized the chair to sign a county comment letter on the Bureau of Land Management's draft environmental assessment for the Callahan Complex herd-management area.
Pam Harrington told the board the assessment is a major development for the area and said public comment closes Sept. 3. "It looks like we'd have 3,800 horses that would be gathered based on this out of the Callahan Complex," Harrington said, adding that the gather would be logistically large and costly. She noted the county will have approximately 30 days to respond to comments before a record of decision is expected.
Following Harrington's presentation the board moved to approve the comment letter and authorized the chair to sign. Staff will submit the county's comments in the BLM comment window and track subsequent documentation.
