Huachuca City Council backs active code enforcement despite potential costs

Town Manager Suzanne Harvey said residents have repeatedly requested stricter enforcement of zoning, building and neighborhood-preservation provisions of the Town Code to protect property values and public health. She noted staff and the Police Department are prepared to pursue aggressive enforcement but warned that enforcement actions may prompt legal challenges and cost the Town money.
Councilmembers voted in favor of active enforcement and emphasized that enforcement should be applied equally. Attorney Thomas Benavidez advised that some enforcement cases may end up in court and that the Town should be prepared for associated costs.
