Emergency manager plans tsunami signage, NOAA radios and preparedness town hall

The emergency manager told the Public Safety Committee the city will schedule an emergency-preparedness town hall in September to coincide with National Preparedness Month and to include earthquake information and community engagement about tsunami-route signage.
"I was gonna have a town hall for emergency preparedness in July, and then I woke up with the the realization that I'm a dummy because the month of September is emergency management, emergency preparedness month," the emergency manager said, explaining the scheduling change. He said 12 new tsunami signs have been ordered and recommended soliciting resident input on sign placement. The manager also reported four NOAA all-hazard radios have been purchased and distributed to the mayor's office, the Public Works building, police and fire departments to ensure real-time weather and hazard alerts. He described a small county FEMA allocation the city may access (roughly $3,000) and proposed buying a satellite telephone for the park station training room (estimated about $4,200) to improve redundant communications.
