"I would like to make a motion that the town of Jamaica, join the Windham County Regional Enforcement Governance Council, and participate in this pilot," the Chair said before the board voted in favor. Board members asked whether the change would increase costs or alter current policing hours; the Chair said participation should not cost more than the town's current contract and would give the town a voice in regional planning and oversight.
Members discussed that the pilot is intended to stabilize staffing and training for sheriff services and that the town's existing policing contract and hours would remain in place while the regional governance body meets and develops long-term arrangements. The board indicated it will designate a representative to participate in the governance council.
