Board approves interlocal wildfire agreement with state and retracts county burn ban

Lander County approved an interlocal contract with the Nevada Division of Forestry (WFPP) for the period July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2027, with a not-to-exceed amount in the low $239,000s. Marcus Lehi, a fire management officer with the Division of Forestry, explained that participation in WFPP prevents counties from receiving enormous invoices for large wildfires by mutualizing costs at the state level; he used the Cottonwood Peak fire as an example of multi-million-dollar incident costs that counties would otherwise face.
