Council issues proclamations, touts Byron Nelson and Memorial Day events

At the May 19 meeting, the McKinney City Council issued several proclamations and highlighted upcoming community events.
The mayor proclaimed May 17–23 as Emergency Medical Services Week and May 2026 as Military Appreciation Month, thanking EMS and veterans groups. The mayor also declared May 19, 2026 "Jacoby Walter Day" to honor the McKinney-born basketball player who was selected in the 2024 NBA draft; family members joined the council for a photo.
Council members and the city manager promoted the CJ Cup Byron Nelson golf event at TPC Craig Ranch and reminded residents that city staff, police and fire will support event operations. The city manager also announced the annual Memorial Day ceremony at Artie Foster Veterans Memorial Park will be held Monday at 10 a.m., asking residents to attend.
Councilmembers used their remarks section to thank pastors and volunteers who participated in the recent National Day of Prayer and to note local school and community achievements.
