City approves $7.6 million contract for airport taxiway work

The McKinney City Council authorized the city manager to execute a contract with Mario Sinicola for excavation related to McKinney National Airport taxiway Alpha rehabilitation and construction of a new connector between Alpha and Bravo.
Airport Director Ken Carley described the scope as rehabilitation of the southern portion of the Alpha taxiway, repairs to taxiway connectors, widening work and a new connector to provide direct access to a portion of the airport being developed by Texas Instruments. Carley said the city received a grant from TxDOT in June and opened bids April 30; Mario Sinicola was the low bidder and the total project cost with contingency is $7,600,000.
Council took the item on staff recommendation and approved the contract after a motion and second. Carley said the airport's engineer reviewed bids for accuracy and contract compliance. Council did not pose substantive questions before the vote.
