Reinbeck library construction to start Feb. 9 as board wins larger FY27 allocation

Lenah Oltman, representing the Reinbeck Public Library, told the City Council on Feb. 2 that construction on the library will begin Feb. 9 and the Clark Street entrance will be closed for the duration of work. Patrons will use the Blackhawk Street entrance; because that entrance is not handicap accessible, the library will offer curbside pickup and local deliveries.
During budget discussion the library reported it could not make the $140,000 figure previously approved work for its FY2027 plan and requested $165,000 while trimming proposed salary increases to 2.8 percent. After discussion the council approved the $165,000 figure by roll call vote. The meeting record shows the city’s FY27 General Fund budgeted expenses of $947,230 and projected revenues of $882,699, leaving an approximate $65,000 deficit that the council said would come from the General Fund reserve.
The council also discussed a Capital Improvement Plan as a future tool to identify revenue options and potential service adjustments to address recurring shortfalls.
