Board approves Bear Creek VFD building addition; DA outlines rules for county sales‑tax-funded purchases

The Kay County Board of County Commissioners approved a building addition at the south end of the Bear Creek Volunteer Fire Department after District Attorney Brian Hermanson relayed guidance from the State Auditor and Inspector’s Office. Hermanson said the county may fund improvements on leased property if the fire department provides a letter stating the funds will be used solely for fire‑department purposes; that letter should accompany the purchase order.
Hermanson also explained rules for vehicles purchased with county sales tax funds: such vehicles "must be titled jointly in the name of both the fire department and the county," must appear on inventory records, be insured by the fire department, and, if sold, be properly disposed of on inventory records with proceeds remitted to the county. The Board approved the building addition on a motion by Jones, seconded by Kreger.
