The Fairfield Union Local Board approved agreements with the county sheriff’s office to continue the district’s school security officers program and to maintain a school resource officer at the high school. Administrators described the program as a partnership that uses retired deputies for some security positions and a designated deputy for the school resource officer role.
Superintendent Caldwell noted the district has had a long partnership with the sheriff’s office and called the arrangement "working well" in the district. The board then approved a contract specifically for Deputy Kiesel to provide security officer services at Fairfield Union Local (motion moved and carried by roll call). The administration said the officers are employees of the sheriff’s office but function as part of the district’s auxiliary security team while on campus.
Board members did not detail contract dollar amounts during the public meeting but recorded the motions and roll-call approvals.
