CEO and CMO give updates on legislation, hiring, sepsis compliance and discharge planning

CEO Kelly gave the board a legislative and staffing update and noted community outreach efforts. She said the hospital is tracking "Assembly Bill 2311," a measure described in the packet as allowing district hospitals to employ physicians; the bill passed the Assembly and is moving through the Senate. Dr. Colo, the chief medical officer, reviewed quality efforts, noting that corrective action plans from the CIHQ survey are on pace. He flagged a dip in sepsis-bundle compliance in April tied to documentation sequencing and described steps to reinforce the “choreography” of required clinical actions and documentation. Dr. Colo said the hospital has a new quality coordinator and is able to do deeper analysis of quality data; he tied better discharge planning to fewer readmissions and said the team will monitor readmission rates as a key signal.

Board members asked for clarifications on implementation timing if the bill passes, numbers on skilled-nursing facility patient sourcing, and measures of post-discharge experience; staff said they would provide more detailed data in follow-up reports.
