Chris Montesinos, the city's economic development director, presented a 12-month summary of his department's activities and said the department has generated roughly $980,000 in gross funds through grants, program contributions and in-kind support. Montesinos highlighted partnerships that advanced trails and tourism planning and said federal and regional programming will be needed before on-the-ground projects proceed.
He also said a KSU/NSF-funded project will deploy real-time water-quality monitoring technology in the Chattahoochee River and Cedar Creek for about 12 months to test E. coli detection and to support recreational-safety planning: "They're going to come for a period of 12 months and do real time water quality testing." Montesinos said these efforts integrate with trails and DMO work to support safe recreation and tourism.
