The Chattahoochee Hills City Council voted to extend for 30 days a previously enacted moratorium on procedures governing rezoning, special-use permits and variances while staff and council work to recommend specific UDC and application-process amendments. Councilmember (speaker 19) moved the amendment to reduce the requested 90-day extension to 30 days; the motion carried by unanimous voice vote.
Council debate was robust. One councilmember argued a short extension creates urgency: "If there's not a finish line, we have a tendency to sit back and be lazy," while staff and other councilmembers cautioned that some requested materials were delivered late and more time would help ensure a complete review. Resident Deneen Crawford urged the council to "implement rigorous due process to protect the city and the citizens of Chattahoochee Hills," citing past problems in rezoning reviews. Mayor Reed noted the council retains the option to extend again if work is incomplete. The council recorded the extension by voice vote and scheduled further review and public engagement steps during the extension period.
