State requires PREP RI resiliency module; Newport staff to track board education

Staff told the planning board the state is rolling out standardized education for boards and commissions including three components: an initial 3-hour orientation, the PREP RI resiliency and stormwater module to be completed biennially, and at least one hour of continuing education each year.
"The 1st 1 is an intro education, or they call it the initial, and you need to do it within a certain amount of time of your appointment," staff member Trish said, describing the 3-hour requirement and the state's ongoing work on the curriculum. She added that PREP RI is a series of videos featuring local officials and that members must attest when they complete modules so staff can record compliance.
Board members asked whether links to the modules were provided and whether the planning office would circulate continuing-education opportunities; Trish said staff will monitor member completion and forward qualifying events. The board noted many current members are likely exempt from the initial module because they have already served and completed similar content.
