The City of Newport Planning Board elected Jeffrey Brooks as chair and Margaret Polsky as vice chair for 2025 during its regular meeting.
During the election portion of the agenda, a board member nominated Brooks for chair; the nomination was seconded and the board approved the appointment by voice vote. Brooks accepted the nomination, saying, "I accept your nominee, Jenny." Later, Chair Brooks nominated Margaret Polsky for vice chair; Polsky accepted the nomination and the board again approved the motion by voice vote.
The board also nominated and approved a secretary for 2025. The chair proposed Rick for secretary; a member seconded the motion, which passed by voice vote. The newly elected secretary responded, "Sure," when thanked by the board and later accepted the role.
The board followed the procedure outlined under Robert's Rules for nominations and paper ballots if multiple candidates received seconds. No contested paper ballots were required. All three officer elections were recorded as approved by voice vote.
