The Lewis Central Comm School District board voted Aug. 3 to award a contract to Viper for sanitary-pipe repairs at Titan Hill, approving a bid of $24,379.89.
Superintendent (Superintendent) explained the issue: crews previously found a crack or "belly" in the sanitary pipe that requires removing about 60 feet of flooring, replacing the pipe, and restoring the floor. He said the work "starts just outside of the teacher's lounge" and that the contractor expects to finish the repairs and new flooring before school begins. The board heard that Viper had completed similar work at Kreft and the superintendent recommended Viper because it could start immediately.
During the action item the board approved the contract on a roll-call vote. The contract amount was announced in open session as "$24,379.89." The superintendent had told the board the work should take about two weeks once started; administration will monitor schedule and payment pending satisfactory completion.
The board also discussed longer-term questions about pipe durability and whether future designs need different sub-bases or insulation when schools are rebuilt; the superintendent suggested the design firm for any future project should address those concerns.
