Resident urges council to act on speeding and excessive noise on 9400 South

Steve Andrus, a Sandy resident, used the general citizen comment period to detail longstanding speeding and noise problems on 9400 South near 2300–2500 East and to propose specific traffic-calming measures.
"Speeds are often in excess of 60 miles hearing damage," Andrus said, and urged the council to post an officer, lower the posted speed limit to 30 or 35 mph, move the speed-limit sign halfway up the hill, repaint lane merges to reduce drag-style racing, and restrict engine brakes in residential areas. He told the council he has extensive audio and video recordings documenting frequent, deafening races and asked the city to take action to reduce both the safety risk and noise nuisance.
Councilmembers acknowledged the complaint and noted staff responses and interagency coordination: Councilmember Zack Robinson confirmed he had forwarded the resident’s email to police and public works for follow-up and said responses had been provided by both the police chief and public works director. Councilmember Erin deKeiser referred to a recent Vision Zero presentation and a study on 9400 South that may inform possible design or enforcement changes.
