Sandy City installs 2025–26 Youth Council and Youth Court

The Sandy City Council ceremonially installed the 2025–26 Sandy Youth Council and Sandy Youth Court on Aug. 26, welcoming students, parents and program advisors to the chamber.
Judge Paul Farr administered the oath for both youth bodies as council members and staff recognized the programs’ membership and community role. The youth council counts 39 high-school members (sophomores through seniors), including 26 new members, representing nine different area high schools. “To the best of my ability,” participants repeated during the oath, pledging to serve Sandy City, its policies and code of ethics.
Aubrey McKnight and other youth court advisors explained the Youth Court is a diversion program sponsored by the Sandy City Police Department that handles a first minor offense (class B misdemeanor or lower). “To successfully complete the program, they have to attend two court hearings … and they have a youth mentor,” McKnight said, describing the program’s mentorship and return-hearing process.
Council members applauded the volunteers and encouraged continued participation. The council recessed the youth participants to take photographs and moved to the evening’s business.
