Berrien County search committee votes 5-0 to enter closed session to review confidential administrator applications

At a special meeting April 23, the Berrien County Board of Commissioners Search Committee voted unanimously to recess into closed session to review applications for the county administrator vacancy.
Commissioner R. McKinley Elliott called the meeting to order at 2:12 P.M. and, after consultant Chet Janik reported he had received 10 applications and that six applicants had requested confidentiality, the committee moved to enter closed session under MCL 15.268(1)(f). Commissioner Robert Harrison moved the motion, Commissioner Jim Curran supported it, and the Clerk recorded a 5-0 vote in favor (Curran, Freehling, Harrison, Yarbrough and Elliott). The board recessed to closed session at 2:13 P.M. and reconvened at 2:46 P.M.
Also present at the meeting were Kristin Reynolds, Berrien County HR Director, and Thaddeus Hackworth, county corporate counsel, who cited the state statute authorizing confidential review of employment applications. The special meeting minutes record that the committee completed its closed-session review and returned to open session later the same day.
