Astoria sees spike in building permit intake; city races to recruit building officials

John Roberts told the Planning Commission that building permit revenues for the second quarter reached about $1,000,000, a high-water mark largely attributable to Columbia Memorial Hospital and other large projects. "In terms of building, I think we experienced in 0.25 2 the largest revenue the city will ever see in building permit intake. We crested 1000000 dollars," Roberts said.
Roberts identified two long-serving building officials, Bob Johnson and Bob Mitchell, who together have more than 75 years of experience; he said the city is seeking either a deputy building inspector to train toward certification or a fully certified building official, and has advertised a permit technician to help front-counter operations.
