Community Development Director John Roberts told the Astoria Planning Commission that the department has been unusually active in the first half of the year, with roughly 100 development applications and 14 pre-application meetings signaling a healthy pipeline. "We crested 100 hundred applications we've received," Roberts said, noting that pre-application counts are a leading indicator of future projects.
Roberts outlined near-term priorities for the commission, including initiating code amendments by September, launching a development-review audit to identify process improvements, and moving forward on longer-range projects such as the Tongue Point area plan. He said staff will work to pare an initial list of about 15 code topics to a manageable set for commission review and asked commissioners to be prepared for an active fall agenda.
