County leadership proposed increasing the employer monthly contribution to full-time employees' health insurance by $50 per month to help cover rising premiums and improve the county's competitiveness in recruiting and retaining staff. CEO Bill Everett framed health insurance as a key employee benefit and recommended the increase apply to union and non-union employees.
"I think one of the most important benefits we offer our employees is health insurance," Everett said while urging the commission to approve the supplemental contribution. The motion passed unanimously; commissioners said they would continue to monitor premium trends and consider future adjustments as needed.
