Board approves School Improvement Plans; principals emphasize data-driven approaches

The Stevenson-Carson School District Board approved the District School Improvement Plans after principals presented one-page plans aligned to the district strategic plan.
Dr. Benton Dorman, middle school principal, said the SIP centers on "data-based decision making" and called the iReady program "a huge asset" that provides administrators with academic, social and emotional data to guide interventions. Principal Sarah Dodson said both SES and CES are working on alignment, data-driven decisions and weekly support-staff meetings; she noted concerns over declining attendance and that "there isn’t a lot of guidance around excused ones." Principal William Schwan highlighted stronger hiring this year and said student support staff are "game changers," and that upcoming security updates will change the high school's physical layout.
Jon Paul Anderson moved to approve the District School Improvement Plans; Laura Mills seconded and the motion carried. The presentations and vote signal the board's endorsement of SIPs that prioritize data use, student supports and school-to-school alignment.
