Consultants recommend resilience hub and identity‑focused strategies for Point Roberts

During the advisory council's mid‑cycle check‑in, consultants described a resilience hub concept that would combine emergency shelter, renewable energy, workforce training, maker space and local food production. Sam Humphries, the consultant, said the resilience hub idea grew directly from community input and could serve as a connective center to build skills, support everyday services and provide recovery capacity after disasters.

To illustrate possibilities, the consultants cited local and national examples — an arts conservancy and workforce incubators — and urged aligning around a shared identity in order to recruit businesses and produce targeted promotions. "A resilience hub is... a community center, and a place for people to come together to grow skills," the consultant said. The team recommended continuing community engagement to refine what components (commercial kitchen, maker spaces, broadcasting studio) would best match Point Roberts needs and capacity.
