Santee School District honors retiring board member Ken Fox after 14 years

The Santee School District Board of Education on Sept. 3 held a recognition ceremony for retiring board member Ken Fox, who stepped down in August after serving on the board since 2010. President Dustin Burns and visiting officials presented a proclamation, a governance team retirement bell and Project YALE handprint artwork that included his grandchildren’s handprints.
Burns summarized Fox’s community service and career, noting awards and long involvement with local organizations. "Ken Fox is the embodiment of an active citizen and dedicated volunteer," Burns said, highlighting Fox’s work with the Santee Park & Recreation Committee, the Santee Community Foundation and local youth sports organizations. Mayor John Minto and Council Member Laura Koval presented a city proclamation; a representative from Supervisor Joel Anderson’s office presented a certificate on the supervisor’s behalf.
Staff and association representatives also spoke. Melanie Hirahara and Lori Meaux offered thanks on behalf of the Santee Teachers Association, and Stephanie Southcott spoke for the Professional Leadership Team. The Board recessed briefly to honor Fox and reconvened with acknowledgement of the celebration as part of opening business.
