During the council's public‑comment segment, a senior‑center patron described being unable to communicate from inside a shower stall and urged the city to add a way for patrons to summon help more quickly.
"So I was like, Hello? I'm okay," the speaker recalled when staff could not hear people inside the stall. She said lifeguards and staff who cannot see into the facility sometimes knock loudly on doors and then must wait 20–45 minutes before being sure someone is all right. The resident recommended a pull string, a small panel or a PA speaker so staff can communicate with people inside changing rooms and respond faster in potential emergencies.
Parks and recreation staff responded that senior-services falls under their department and that staff would take the speaker's contact information after the meeting to gather more details and follow up on feasible improvements. The council did not take immediate action at the meeting but staff committed to obtaining more information to evaluate possible safety changes.
