Planning board approves special use permit for Engine Transmission Warehouse expansion in Ontario

The Wayne County Planning Board voted March 25, 2026 to approve a special use permit for Engine Transmission Warehouse at 6383 Furnace Road (Dock 3) in the Town of Ontario to allow an indoor dismantling process and additional outdoor staging along the fence line.

Applicant Michael DeMasi described the expansion as an effort to move toward fully indoor dismantling in the north-eastern portion of the building while maintaining outdoor staging along the fence line. DeMasi said neighboring operations are other automotive businesses and that the facility uses the eastern dock for outbound tractor-trailer freight. He summarized environmental safeguards for handling fluids, saying the operation uses a gas-punch drill and "three-levels of protection to prevent environmental impact," and added the site is concrete and staffed with fire extinguishers. DeMasi also said the operation "is not a traditional junk-yard and focuses on getting stock in-and-out as quickly as possible."

Rob Burns moved to approve the special use permit; Bert Peters seconded. The board recorded 9 ayes, 0 nays and one abstention by Kenneth Conklin. The approval allows the applicant to proceed under the conditions of the jurisdiction's permitting process; the transcript did not record additional permit conditions or detailed mitigation measures to be completed prior to operations.
