Supervisors push to reopen former county dental clinic, staff warn Certificate of Need required

Two Town Supervisors told the Health & Medical Services Committee they would like the county to explore reopening a former dental clinic to address local gaps in dental care.
Dave Fantuzzo (Huron) and Gary Rose (Palmyra) reported touring the clinic space and expressed “strong interest in obtaining quotes for new equipment,” emphasizing that services should be available to all ages but prioritize children and the Medicaid population. Public Health Deputy Director Kerry VanAuken said a Certificate of Need (CON) would be required and that staff will coordinate with the New York State Department of Health to gather more information. VanAuken also said staff will explore feasibility of mobile dental services as an alternative or supplement.
No formal motion to reopen the clinic was submitted at the April 6 meeting; the supervisors’ comments were recorded as interest and a request to pursue feasibility and cost estimates.
