DSS reports stable child and Medicaid caseloads, reopens daycare program and plans Compass demo

Lisa Graf, Commissioner of the Wayne County Department of Social Services, reported to the Human Services Committee on April 6 that CPS, foster care and Medicaid caseloads remain stable while SNAP and Temporary Assistance figures show a downward trend. Graf said homelessness figures have decreased overall though bed nights remain slightly elevated; she attributed some of the drop in shelter use to the end of Code Blue operations.
Graf said the department has reopened its daycare program and is preparing a waitlist to keep caseloads manageable. She reported positive internal feedback after onboarding the Compass system and said staff will give a demonstration in June to explore potential AI technology integration. Graf also said she is interested in developing a county-wide social media policy and plans to discuss that with the county administrator and counsel. An Out-of-State travel request for Washington, D.C. was presented and approved unanimously.
