Aging and Youth director highlights transportation and home-safety uses for unmet-needs funds

Amy Haskins, Wayne County Aging and Youth Director, reviewed unmet needs on April 6 and said transportation "remains a key area where unmet needs funding could be utilized." She proposed several additional uses for those funds: fall-detection integration into PERS, pest control services, lawn care and snow removal, mobility aids such as scooters and ramps, and installation of smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
Haskins also reviewed the Caregiver Services program, stating it is primarily federally funded and that unspent funds may be rolled over annually to support respite care, meals, assistive devices and transportation. She reminded the committee about the county’s Law Day event scheduled for May 13 at the Palmyra VFW. No formal vote on new uses of unmet-needs funds was taken at the meeting.
