County receives first state gas-tax backfill totaling about $265,746

County highway officials told commissioners the state and the Association of Indiana Counties have begun backfilling lost motor-fuel tax revenue that affected local budgets earlier this year. The department reported it has already received $222,479.80 for the MBH portion and $43,266.62 for the LRS portion as the first of a four-month replacement series.
Zach said the payments are labelled in county accounting as MBH holiday gas-tax reimbursement and that the state plans to continue monthly backfills so the county should be made whole by the end of the year. Commissioners asked when the reimbursement posts and were told the county expects another posting on August 7; department staff said the statutory window for the program covers four months of shortfall.
