Economic director reports new restaurant and CORI selection for Build Vernon County

Tina Cochran, Vernon County’s Economic Development Director, updated commissioners that The Southside Grill has opened and that the Shumans, owners of the former U.S. Bank building on Cherry Street, are finishing repairs and preparing to lease the property. Cochran also said Build Vernon County, Inc. has been selected to participate in the CORI Heartland Rural Innovators Initiative, an 18-month program funded by the Patterson Family Foundation and led by the Center on Rural Innovation.
Cochran noted that the initiative is intended to help build rural innovation and tech-based entrepreneurship ecosystems. The next meeting of Build Vernon County, Inc. was scheduled for the following day at 5:00 p.m. at the Heartland Business Center; details on any county incentives or financial commitments were not recorded in the meeting minutes.
