Election board certifies ballot language for four school public questions

The election board voted to certify public-question language for four school corporations that will appear on the November ballot.
Director Becker told the board the certifications follow the statutory approval process and are a formal ratification of the language as it will appear on ballots. "We will notify the the Department of Local Government and Finance, that this is the language that's been approved," Becker said. Counsel representing several school districts attended and indicated no outstanding issues.
The board moved and approved each question individually by voice vote. Eric Blunt, counsel appearing on behalf of Beech Grove, said no representatives could attend but that he could answer questions and that he did not believe the district had any outstanding concerns. Jeff Quackenbush, representing Decatur Township, noted the superintendent and CFO were present but had no comments for the board. Doctor Matt Kaiser was identified as attending on behalf of Washington Township.
Board staff said the next step is to include certified language in ballot proofs to be distributed for review before final ratification. The board also noted an additional public question from Indianapolis Public Schools arrived late and will be scheduled for a future meeting for certification.
