Mayor, two commissioners sworn in; outgoing commissioner urges support for staff

At the Nov. 18 special meeting the City Commission administered oaths of office and held brief remarks as newly elected officials took their seats.
Javier Fernandez was sworn in as mayor in an on‑record oath administered in the meeting chamber. The oath was read aloud on the record, after which colleagues and family members joined for photographs.
Outgoing commissioner Joshua C. Liebman received a plaque recognizing his 10 years-plus of service (Vice Mayor 2012–2014; commissioner 2014–2024) and addressed the commission. "I just really wanted to thank, the city for for everything they they did for me during my, my last few days or or a couple weeks up here," Liebman said, praising city staff cohesion and asking colleagues to protect and support city staff moving forward.
Daniel J. Rodriguez and Brian Corey each took the oath of office. Rodriguez, after taking his oath, thanked voters and family and said he looked forward "to doing this job as best as I can." Brian Corey, sworn in as Commissioner Group 3 and designated vice mayor, thanked voters and family and said he looked forward to "getting more done."
The meeting closed after a motion to adjourn was moved and seconded; no additional business or votes were recorded.
