Hinckley-Big Rock board approves handbook revisions, auditor and multiple contracts

The Hinckley-Big Rock Community Unit School District #429 Board of Education voted unanimously March 18 to approve several administrative actions, including revisions to the parent/student handbook and the engagement of Newkirk & Associates as the district's independent auditor.
Board President Greg Pritchard called the meeting to order at 6:30 PM. The motion to approve the handbook revisions was made by Vice President Tim Badal and seconded by Jack Haines; the board recorded a 6-0 vote in favor. The board also approved an engagement letter for Newkirk & Associates as independent auditor (motion by Darrin Gengler, seconded by Debi White), a contract with Green Light Driving School, and an ALOP contract with KEC. Bank signatory changes and Authorization of IMRF personnel were approved as well. Each action passed on a recorded 6-0 vote with members Darrin Gengler, Debi White, Myia Sittig, Jack Haines, Tim Badal and Greg Pritchard recorded as voting "Yea."
Administrators also reported personnel items on the consent agenda: three-year administrative contracts for Kim Torman and Deb Kabasenche (2026–2029) and one-year contracts for Bonnie Osborne, Brandon Kriesch and Jeffery Wilkie (2026–2027). Certified staff renewals were included in the consent motion, which the board approved on a 6-0 voice vote.
The board did not attach conditions to the approvals and did not postpone any of the listed items. The board set its next regular meeting for April 15, 2026 at 6:30 PM in the Hinckley-Big Rock High School Library.
