Chief William (W.) Copp briefed the board on multiple operational matters for the Police Department. He reported 28 calls since June 19, including 20 traffic stops that resulted in citations/tickets, four warnings and one administrative tow. He said the county plans to upgrade in-vehicle computers to Windows 11; current squad laptops run Windows 10 and would lose security if forcibly upgraded. Chief Copp presented quotes of $999 for a mouse-operated unit and $1,199 for a touchscreen unit and asked the board that he obtain additional quotes by the next meeting.
Chief Copp also reported that the department received free Narcan for all officers and squads after an ILEAS grant application was approved. The board approved a recruitment advertisement not to exceed $400 (motion: Stingel; second: Giles). Copp noted that Lexipol supplied a 751-page policy the department is reviewing chapter by chapter, and that he is scheduled for Taser 10 training in August and could serve as an instructor thereafter to reduce training costs.
